Civic Consulting Alliance takes on projects where we believe we have the opportunity for significant impact.

Projects are chosen by the size and scope of the issue, as well as by our ability to effect change. Large, pressing problems affecting a broad swath of businesses and residents get top priority. Our goal is to find workable and enduring answers with tangible results.

Now the CEO of the Polk Bros. Foundation, Gillian Darlow led Civic Consulting Alliance’s Economic Growth practice from early 2006 through 2012.  She specialized in strategy development; large-scale, multi-agency collaborations; assessment of new business opportunities; and program design.  In addition to her principal engagements with the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois, and various tourism, leisure, and planning agencies, Gillian also advised public education and environment clients.

Civic Consulting Alliance is a private, non-profit partnership that invests $15 million annually in the things that matter most – education, health care, economic growth, public safety, and more – in Chicago. We create and embed pro bono teams of business experts, government leaders, and our own professionals. At no cost to the taxpayer, we lead long-term, high impact programs that government agencies do not have the expertise or capacity to address on their own and the private sector doesn't have the charge to undertake. Our work helps make Chicago more livable, affordable and globally competitive.

Associate Principals have an opportunity to:

  • Serve on the Management Team of the company
  • Complete high-impact projects for the city of Chicago, one of its Sister Agencies, the County and State, working side-by-side with Civic Consulting colleagues, senior executives in government and private sector leaders
  • Work with the CEO and Principals to architect solutions and oversee implementation
  • Manage partnerships with leading private sector firms and companies
  • Coach colleagues, and at the same time receive mentoring from civic leaders across the region
  • Work with senior executives in city, county and state government

 

Eligibility requirements:

  • Experienced professionals with at least 5 years of business management experience. Experience with a strategic management consulting firms is preferred, but not required.
  • Masters degree
  • Significant analytic, relationship management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people in a complex environment.
  • Track record of success in large organizations and ability to get things done in multiple settings.
  • Passion for achieving the mission of Civic Consulting Alliance

Principals have an opportunity to:
  • Serve on the Executive team of the organization and set the future direction of the company
  • Lead a program area (e.g. education, environment, healthcare, public safety, etc.)
  • Manage large, complex projects and teams (often consisting of internal staff, client staff, and private sector partners)
  • Develop relationships with senior government officials, cultivating an understanding of clients’ agendas and implications for driving change, and helping client staff implement recommendations
  • Manage partnerships with leading private sector firms and corporations
  • Coach colleagues, and at the same time receive mentoring from civic leaders across the region

Eligibility requirements:

  • An advanced degree with at least 10 years of previous management experience, preferably with a major strategic management consulting firm
  • A demonstrable track record of success “getting things done” in multiple settings (e.g., both private sector and government settings) and working with a variety of people
  • Significant client management and analytic skills, as well as complex project management experience
  • Track record of success in large organizations and ability to get things done in multiple settings
  • Passion for achieving the mission of the organization

Carla Esteva joined Civic Consulting Alliance in June of 2010 as an Associate Principal.

Prior to joining Civic Consulting Alliance, Carla worked as a management and strategy consultant since 2006 in the Chicago offices of McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm. In her role as an Engagement Manager at McKinsey, she advised a variety of commercial clients, including consumer product goods companies and clients in the area of transportation and logistics. Carla's experiences ranged from supply chain operations, to strategy, to marketing and sales.

Kathryne Benesh

Kathryne joined Civic Consulting Alliance as a Fellow in September 2009 after completing her B.A. in both Political Science and Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations at the University of Chicago.

At Civic Consulting, she worked with Chicago Public Schools to improve students outcomes at high schools across the District.

Prior to Civic Consulting, Kathryne worked for The Cambridge Group, a Chicago-based consulting firm specializing in growth strategy, and was a Fellow in the Mayor's Office, which included work with Chicago LEADS.
