The Civic Consulting Alliance works with public sector leaders dedicated to making lasting, positive change, and private sector leaders who contribute services pro bono to help create that change. This opportunity allows professionals to leverage their experience to address pressing local government business issues.  Associate Principals work on Chicago's most pressing issues, such as public education, environment, quality of life services, and workforce development. Associate Principals work alongside the Alliance's professional staff and private-sector partners to consult with senior-level government clients.


This is a great opportunity to network with local civic leaders to have a positive impact on our community. In addition it is a fantastic way to keep your skills sharp and mitigate potential resume gaps during a career transition.


The Opportunity:



  • Complete high-impact projects for the city of Chicago or one of its Sister Agencies, working side-by-side with Alliance consultants and senior executives in the Chicago government.

  • Associate Principals will work with an Alliance principal to further define the problem, architect a solution and oversee implementation of the solution.

  • Associate Principals will get the opportunity to work with senior executives in Chicago government within the City of Chicago and gain valuable experience working within the context of a public-private partnership.

  • Access to executive level coursework at University of Chicago Booth School of Business

Who Qualifies:



  • Experienced professionals with at least 5+ years of business experience.

  • Masters degree in business, public policy, public affairs or related field.

  • The fellowship opportunity feels and operates very much like a consulting engagement. Any prior consulting experience is definitely a big plus.

  • Significant analytic, relationship management, research, and communication skills.  Specific business skills may required for some projects.

  • Ability to work with a variety of people in a complex political environment.

  • Track record of success in large organizations and ability to get things done in multiple settings.

  • Desire to serve the City of Chicago and its government agencies.

Past Projects:



  • Designing and implementing a process to track funds the City receives through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA or the Stimulus)

  • Analyzing and streamlining contract and invoice processes to reimburse non-profit grantees.
