
CCA hires consultants from a variety of backgrounds, often with top consulting firm experience. Consultants may enter the organization with two or 20 years of experience; in accordance with their skills and experience level, consultants are assigned to particular teams, given relevant roles within those teams, and offered appropriate client assignments. Consultants must be able to work with a variety of people in a complex political environment.
Consultants have an opportunity to:
- Perform critical analysis and research. Including problem analysis, design, data gathering and interview
- Manage large, complex projects and teams (often consisting of internal staff, client staff, and private sector partners)
- Serve as an expert for a given client or agency, developing relationships with senior government officials, cultivating an understanding of clients’ agendas and implications for driving change, and helping client staff implement recommendations
- Manage partnerships with leading private sector consultancies and corporations
- Develop proposals for and with clients and external partners
- Coach and mentor colleagues: receive mentoring from CCA board members
- Take an active roles in building the CCA organization (e.g., establish new client relationships and project leads, work with the CEO to raise external funds in support of CCA’s mission)
Eligibility requirements:
- An undergraduate degree and at least three years of subsequent work experience, preferably with a major strategic management consulting firm, or
- An advanced degree (MGA, MPP, or related) with at least two years of previous work experience, preferably with a major strategic management consulting firm
- A demonstrable track record of success “getting things done” in multiple setting (e.g., both private sector and government settings) and working with a variety of people
- Significant client management skills and analytic skills, as well as project management experience
- Experience in and desire to serve the City of Chicago and its government agencies
