Re-designing the patient experience

Cook County Health and Hospital System (CCHHS) is undergoing a transformation from a focus on caring for patients when they are sick to pro-actively managing the care of its patients in an effort to keep them well. To reflect this transformation in the physical spaces of the ambulatory clinics, Cannon Design is helping CCHHS develop templates for physical changes that will support this transformation. The templates represent an important milestone in planning for the long-term physical environment of the clinics to positively impact both the patient and staff experience. This year's capital investments at the Oak Forest outpatient center will reflect the design suggestions.

The spark [Civic Consulting Alliance] gave to this effort was a huge relief to clinicians - but more importantly, patients - who had suffered by the inefficient and far-flung distribution of clinical services there.
