Alexander Gail Sherman leads pro bono teams to reshape how the city works.

Since joining Civic Consulting Alliance in 2005, he has personally led multi-firm, multi-million-dollar efforts to streamline operations and re-envision policies across local government.  For example:

  • 60 foundations joined the Recovery Partnership to help Chicago secure and invest $2 billion from federal stimulus
  • The Police Department reassigned hundreds of officers to street patrol, based on a two-year pro bono review from the private sector
  • With more than a dozen firms, Alexander has helped the County with sweeping reforms to roll back the sales tax.

After graduating from Princeton University, Alexander earned a masters from Cambridge University for research on Aristotle's mathematics.  At The Field Museum, he spearheaded the world's first gallery guide for PalmPilots.  His financial model of Oxford University -- the first ever -- garnered front-page coverage and helped shape the public debate about funding higher education in the U.K.

Alexander has always loved theater, museums, and civic affairs.  He currently serves on board committees of several arts organizations, chairs the Library Sub-Committee for the University Club of Chicago, and acts as treasurer of The Hypocrites, where he has helped transfer hit shows to New York.
