Michael Hanowsky
Senior Civic Fellow

Dr. Michael Hanowsky joined Civic Consulting Alliance as a Senior Civic Fellow following his appointment as a Fulbright-García Robles Scholar in Mexico City.  During his time in Mexico, he was a CEPI Fellow at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and worked to advise federal cabinet members on the topics of climate change and the design of federal climate policy.

Michael received his Ph.D. from MIT in 2008 from the Engineering Systems Division.  As part of his research, he developed a mathematical optimization formulation to assist the FAA in the strategic management of aircraft during periods of inclement weather.  At MIT, he was an avid supporter of student initiatives and student leadership, a passion for empowerment that carried into his dissertation, as he proposed a mechanism for the FAA to give the needs of airline passengers greater consideration when flights are delayed.

Michael has previously worked with the AeroMéxico to model passenger flows at the International Airport in Mexico City (AICM), the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority on bus rapid transit planning, and as an analyst with ZS Associates, where he worked extensively with the pharmaceutical industry.  He also holds M.S. degrees in Transportation and Operations Research, both from MIT, and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley.
