Chicago Conservation Campus
Within 145 acres in Lincoln Park are housed numerous, independent organizations that focus on nature and culture – and in some cases, the intersection between the two. This area – bounded by bounded by Diversey Parkway and North Avenue and by Stockton Drive and Lake Michigan – presents a unique opportunity to further the City’s green leadership and to engage people in conservation ideas in a natural setting.
At the request of Mayor Daley, Civic Consulting led a six-month process in 2009 designed to explore the creation of a second museum campus for Chicago, a “conservation campus” themed around environmental topics.
Guiding the participation of the many organizational stakeholders and community groups, Civic Consulting managed the planning effort and guided the development of:
- Community engagement strategy
- Messaging and goals alignment
- Compelling ideas for the site’s theme, branding, and key elements to improve visitor enjoyment
- Enhancements in the physical layout and design
- Solutions to critical traffic and transit problems in the surrounding neighborhood
- Governance options.
