Chicago Workforce Investment Council (CWIC)
More than $300 million in public funds is spent annually in Chicago on workforce development. Before Chicago LEADS, no entity regularly convened the City’s private and public leaders to set priorities for this investment and oversee and assess how these funds are spent.
With help from Civic Consulting partners Mayer Brown, Edelman, and Leo Burnett, Mayor Daley launched the new Chicago Workforce Investment Council (CWIC) in June 2009 to provide this much needed oversight.
CWIC sets goals for Chicago’s workforce development efforts and aligns resources in order to achieve those goals.
Eventually, CWIC is the permanent home for the work initiated through Chicago LEADS. CWIC will continue to feature many of the elements critical to LEADS' success, including
- Partnership between business, government and nonprofit organizations
- Data-driven decision making
- Industry defined strategies.
