Convention Pass

Client:
Chicago Transit Authority
Practice Area:
Project Year:
2010
Project Description:

Civic Consulting Alliance partnered with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Jennifer Henry to help the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) develop a "convention pass" pilot. In June 2010 CTA approved plans to pilot a Convention Pass, allowing conventions and conferences to purchase multi-day, unlimited-ride passes for attendees at a bulk rate. By reaching out to the un-tapped convention market, the Convention Pass provides the CTA with a new way to access additional revenue and riders, while making Chicago more attractive to convention-goers and reducing pollution and emissions for all.

Civic Consulting Alliance partner the Boston Consulting Group identified fare-pass programs as a key step towards increasing transit use as part of implementing the Chicago Climate Action Plan. NRDC helped demonstrate that large conventions would be interested and assisted in developing the pricing structure and business model.
