Ecodriving

Practice Area:
Project Year:
2010
Project Description:

Studies have shown that following a series of simple, no-cost changes to driving behavior and maintenance practices, drivers can reduce their fuel consumption by an average of 15%, leading to both a significant reduction in greenhouse gases and a reduction in fuel expenses for the driver. This collection of behaviors is called Ecodriving because it is both ecological and economical.

Civic Consulting has launched several initiatives to implement Ecodriving programs to reduce fuel consumption across the city. Working with Harold Washington College and the Business Affairs and Consumer Protection department, Civic Consulting helped launch the first Ecodriving training program for new taxi drivers in the United States.

In addition, Civic Consulting launched with several municipal fleets across the city an Ecodriving pilot to evaluate the impact to fuel efficiency under varying circumstances. The findings from this pilot will help make recommendations for how to launch a city wide ecodriving program.
