Green Ribbon Committee
The Green Ribbon Committee is a group of civic leaders that independently reviews Chicago’s progress in achieving the goals of the Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP) and assists with implementation. The Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP) is Chicago’s blueprint for a more sustainable future. CCAP has the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% relative to 1990 levels by 2050, with an interim goal of a 25% reduction relative to 1990 levels by 2020. CCAP reinvents the way Chicago thinks about buildings, transportation, energy, waste, pollution and adaptation.
The members of the Green Ribbon Committee are business, non-profit, and civic leaders. They have been instrumental in helping Chicago measure its progress and with broadening the audience to address climate change. In 2011, Mayor Emanuel called on the Green Ribbon Committee to help accelerate the Plan and link it more closely to jobs and economic development.
The Civic Consulting Alliance supports the ongoing work of the committee. In all, Civic Consulting’s partners have provided nearly $16 million in pro bono services to support the Chicago Climate Action Plan.
