Bronzeville Economic and Community Impact Report
Client: Bronzeville Legacy Collective | Partners: DLA Piper, KPMG LLP
Opportunity
The Bronzeville Legacy Collective (The Collective) is a community alliance of eight cultural institutions dedicated to revitalizing the Bronzeville–Black Metropolis National Heritage Area (Bronzeville). Through nine locally-led cultural projects, The Collective aims to preserve Bronzeville’s rich cultural heritage, promote economic empowerment, and position the area as a destination for Black culture in America.
The Collective wanted to understand how their individual and collective efforts were contributing to this vision. To respond to this request, Civic Consulting Alliance worked with KPMG to provide pro bono support to assess the economic and community contributions of their development plans.
Action
Civic Consulting Alliance and pro bono partner KPMG completed a report that assesses the economic and community contributions of the Collective across the Bronzeville community, the city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois.
This work included conducting interviews and gathering data from members of The Collective, and then leveraging economic impact modeling software and data analytics to conduct the assessment, test it, and make adjustments. The final deliverable was a report that quantifies those contributions.
Our pro bono partner DLA Piper is providing ongoing support to the Collective to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
“What would have taken us years to accomplish was done in just a few months, thanks to the guidance and support from Civic Consulting Alliance. Their expertise helped us collect critical data across our projects, assess our collective impact, and position the Bronzeville Legacy Collective for long-term success.”
Impact
Investment in place-based solutions like the Bronzeville Legacy Collective fosters local growth and strengthens community infrastructure, a key strategic lever to building an inclusive and equitable economy that contributes to Chicago’s long-term vitality.
This collaboration resulted in a report that will enable lasting impact by helping the group engage funders, align around shared goals, and demonstrate how their efforts contribute to employment, visitor spending, community belonging, and overall quality of life in Bronzeville.
